Featured Speaker: Lynnette Novak
About Lynnette Novak
Lynnette Novak is an agent at The Seymour Agency and is currently building her client list. Prior to joining The Seymour Agency, Lynnette spent seventeen years freelance editing. She worked with new writers, advanced writers, as well as New York Times and USA Today bestselling authors. Lynnette earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba, where she specialized in English and French. She excelled in Advanced Creative Writing in university and studied writing for children and teens through the Institute of Children’s Literature. She was a Pitch Wars mentor in 2015 and 2016. Both her mentees acquired an agent. Lynnette has since closed her editing business and is excited to bring her passion for the written word to agenting. Although Lynnette was born and raised in Manitoba, Canada, she now lives in Minnesota with her husband, twin girls, and many pets. Her personal interests include reading, writing, exercising at the gym (okay, that’s a love/hate relationship), working on an assortment of crafts, all things having to do with animals (if she could own a farm, zoo, and animal shelter, she would), and enjoying time with family and friends.

Lynette – Thank you for this interview & all the actionable query tidbits!
Thank you. I’m learning. Thanks, again.
GREAT INTERVIEW with Lynette Novak. Thanks for bringing her on.
Great interview, Lynnette and Rosie! Appreciate the tips!
Truly enjoyed Lynnette’s honest answers to the questions posed by Rosie.
She reinforces much of what I’m already aware of and that’s very good for me. I also know better what she’s interested in acquiring these days. I like the fact that she’s interested in silly stories but with character arcs and other requirements since I have a couple she might like. I might consider querying her in the future. I appreciate her spending time with all of us aspiring authors.
How does Lynette feel about stories that deal with a character’s problem?
This was informative and enjoyable.
Thanks so much to Rosie Pova and Lynette Novak for this interview. It is an advantage in the writing trenches to hear what agents have to say about querying, word counts, and subjects that are oversupplied now. If anyone doesn’t follow Lynette on Twitter you should. She posts the most amazing animal stories daily. They are always heartwarming.
Lynnette and Rosie,
This interview was brilliant. It made many points clearer for me, especially regarding what editors are looking for right now. Big thanks!
